Hello and welcome!
Thank you for contacting the Gold Gulch Museum at the Broken Bit. Our
2008 / 2009 price per student is $11.00. Our colorful and entertaining modern
day gold prospectors are very good at capturing the hearts, and minds of the students.
The students have fun and most importantly, they learn. The entire Gold
Gulch staff has been finger-printed and background checked, and are registered with the Fresno County School District office. We want your students and you to have a good time, but we want them to feel safe as
well.
Upon your arrival,
part of our cast will take over with the students, and explain some of the rules, while the “Big Kids,” or chaperones,
are taken across the bridge and instructed as to what events will be taking place. When
it is time for the students to cross the bridge, they will be given a low sugar snack.
We will have our explosive opening, then we will divide up into groups. Each
group will go to a different area, and do the events associated with that area. Currently
the students will be gold panning, taking a tour inside our actual gold mine, then they will return across the creek to our
picnic area, where we will teach about the art, history, and culture of the Native American people. The students will then visit the science area, where Kissin Cassie will take over. Following the science area, the students will go either up the hill or over to the creek, where Mr. Russ
will enlighten them with his geology lesson. They will learn the different types of rocks, and the formation of gold and how
it came to be in our mountains.
We are very flexible, so
if there are special needs that we can help with, please let us know. While we are curriculum-based,
we are not bound to teaching solely Gold Rush history. We invite you to take full advantage of our facility and our
instructors by letting us know if there is a subject you would like us to teach about. In most cases, we are able to accommodate
students with physical disabilities as well. Please make sure students
wear closed toed shoed, as we are in the foothills, and there are many things that can hurt the feet if improper shoes are
worn.
We are looking forward to seeing you, and having a great time.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Respectfully,
Retha Crumpton
aka Kissin' Cassie
